The Legacy of Sarah, Abraham’s Wife
Text: 1 Peter 3:6
Sarah is remembered as a woman of faith—not simply because of her beauty, wealth, or possessions, but because of the way she honored her husband Abraham and trusted God’s purpose for their family.
Peter points to Sarah as an example of a woman who called Abraham “lord,” reflecting respect within their marriage. Her legacy challenges us to look beyond outward accomplishments and consider the attitude of the heart.
Today, many wives are educated, talented, skillful, successful, and even breadwinners. These are valuable qualities and should not be diminished. But achievement should never become a reason for pride, disrespect, or a struggle for control within marriage.
At the same time, a husband’s authority should never be understood as permission to abuse, control, or silence his wife. Biblical marriage calls both husband and wife to humility, love, respect, and responsibility before God.
The question is not, “Who is more powerful?” but, “How can we honor God in the way we treat one another?”
Sarah’s legacy reminds wives that strength can be expressed through respect and faith, and it reminds husbands that leadership must be expressed through love, sacrifice, and godly responsibility.
Final Thought
A woman’s greatness is not measured by how much authority she can claim, nor by how much she can accomplish. Her legacy is also shaped by her character, faith, wisdom, and the way she builds her family.
May today’s wives be women of strength without pride, submission without weakness, and faith without fear—and may today’s husbands lead with love, humility, and responsibility before God.
